A Study on Switching Time of Constant Aminopylline Infusion therapy to Oral Theophylline in Acute Asthma Attack

Abstract
|
|
|
For clinical effect from theophylline, maintenance of serum theophylline concentration within therapeutic range is one of the most important factor.
We studied on switching time of constant aminophylline infusion therapy to oral theophylline preparations in 37 children with acute asthma attack who admitted to Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital..
We measured serum theophylline level before and after switching to oral preparation from intravenous aminophylline infusion therapy.
In group I, who switched to oral theophylline 2 hours before discontinuation of intravenous aminophylline therapy, mean serum theophylline concentrations were 11.14㎍/ml (2hrs before discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy), 9.86㎍/ml (just
after
discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy) and 9.93㎍/ml (2hrs after discontiuation of IV aminophylline therpay).
In group II, who switched to oral theophylline just after discontiuation of aminophylline infusion, mean seru theophylline concentrations were 8.07㎍/ml (just after discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy), 8.65㎍/ml (2 hrs after
discontiuation
of IV
aminophylline therapy), 8.41㎍/ml (4hrs after discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy).
In group III, who switched to oral theophylline 2 hours after discontiuation of aminophylline infusion, mean serum theophylline concentrations were 7.15㎍/ml(just after discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy), 6.14㎍/ml (2hrs after
discontiuation of
IV aminophylline therapy), 6.66㎍/ml(4hrs after discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy), 6.20㎍/ml(6hrs after discontiuation of IV aminophylline therapy).
In our study serum theophylline concentractions in patients who switched to oral theophylline preparations just after discontiuation of aminophylline infusion were relatively stable before after switching preparations.
